Six ways to kick-start your AM

Whether or not you have a great day has little do with which side of the bed you wake up on and a lot to do with how you wake up. A restful night, the right nutrition and a proper routine all determine how you’ll feel both physically and emotionally. Go to bed early
A good day always begins the previous night. Prepare for your morning by getting your first to-dos out of the way, such as packing your lunch and picking out your clothes. Waking up should be a calm experience, and removing early stresses can help preserve your morning tranquility. When you go to bed, make sure you get around eight hours of sleep. Drink something
By morning, your body has been without water for several hours, so you’re probably dehydrated. Drink a glass of something – water is best, but milk, juice, coffee or tea count. This will soothe your dry throat, help you wake up and give your metabolism a boost.

Exercise
For many of us, this is the most difficult part. But you don’t need to kick your morning into high gear with an intense workout. Simply get your blood flowing and your muscles moving. Stretch first, then toss in some pushups, situps or a walk outside. Do whatever works best for you. The most important thing is that you do it, so choose an activity you enjoy.

Meditate
Many of us want those few extra minutes of sleep so desperately that we set ourselves up for a hectic and stress filled morning. Then, when our alarm goes off for the fourth time, we climb out of bed, move through our daily routine as fast as possible and run out the door. Instead, give yourself time to breathe. Meditation is about having a moment with your thoughts. Allow yourself to think about what a nice morning you’re having and what a nice day it can be.

Eat up
Sometimes you wake up before your stomach does, but there is a reason they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You don’t need to eat a lot, but you should eat something. Again, this will kick-start your metabolism and give you the energy to get you moving. On the other hand, skipping this meal can leave you feeling uncomfortable and tired later. Set some goals
Lastly, decide what you want to accomplish for the day. Keep it simple — having too many goals or goals that are too difficult only sets you up for failure. Choose three things you’d like to accomplish and make sure they happen. You’ll sleep easier knowing you did everything you wanted to during the day, and you’ll gain more confidence in days to come.
